Purpose

To ensure the safety of all members, guests, and staff during periods of severe weather, including but not limited to thunderstorms, lightning, high winds, and heavy rain.

Weather Monitoring

  • Pool management will monitor local weather alerts (e.g., National Weather Service, weather apps) throughout the day.
  • Lifeguards and staff are to remain alert for sudden changes in weather conditions, such as darkening skies, increasing winds, or distant thunder.

Pool Closure Guidelines

The pool will be cleared, and all swim activities will be suspended immediately under the following conditions:

Lightning or Thunder

  • The entire facility will be cleared at the first sound of thunder or visible lightning.
  • Patrons must seek shelter in vehicles.
  •  The pool will remain closed for 30 minutes after the last observed thunder or lightning.

High Winds

  • The pool area will be evacuated if wind speeds become dangerous or create safety hazards (e.g., flying debris, furniture movement).
  • Umbrellas and loose objects will be secured or removed.
  • Reopening will occur only once wind conditions are deemed safe.

Heavy Rain

  • If rainfall becomes heavy enough to impair visibility of the pool bottom, swimming will be temporarily suspended.
  • Operations will resume once visibility returns to a safe level.

Communication

  • All closures and reopening notices will be communicated to patrons via announcements, text alerts, and/or email.
  • If the pool is closed due to weather, management will reassess conditions regularly and reopen when safe.

Reopening Guidelines

  • The pool may reopen 30 minutes after the last lightning or thunder.
  • Lifeguards will conduct a full safety sweep before allowing swimmers back into the water.
  • If a weather-related closure occurs after 7:00 PM, the pool will remain closed for the remainder of the day.

Special Notes

  • Weather-related closures are for the safety of all members and staff.
  • No refunds or rain checks will be issued for weather-related closures unless otherwise communicated.
